Mini Recap: Friday Night

Okay y'all so I tried....I really tried, but the weather did end up getting to me :( But I did make out on Friday to OM (92 Winthrop St, Harvard Square, Cambridge) - I love this place! And it was PACKED! The crowd ended up being evenly mixed international, as well as the guys to gals ratio...cutie DJ Eight-2 - I gotta say this guy is like the calmest DJ on the planet...it's like he goes into Zen mode when he's spinning - did a great job of catering to this eclectic audience. Even the staff was getting in on the action!

Only draw backs would be the bars; the drinks were weak and the service was slow (though I have endured worse) and there are not enough bathroom stalls - Somebody - I'm not mentioning any names or acronyms ;) - used the women's bathroom instead of waiting for the men's when I was next in line -uh- manners, thanks!) But I did have a great time dancing and minglin'. Def. A.

I also got a chance to have a chat with the Socialite/Community Activist Chip Greenridge and Herby of Poetic Escape. Chip let me in on how the Greatest Minds has a meeting with Mayor Menino to discuss the possibility of funding the creation of proposals for 5 new urban establishments (2 on Blue Hill Ave) in Boston as well as strategize the appropriate way to do "let-outs" and having more police cooperation. You heard it on BostonFab! first! This is one meeting you will NOT want to miss! Details forthcoming! He and Herby also spent time at the Hyatt for Nu Soul and reported that it was well attended and said Black Ice had an outstanding performance.

My sources also say that MJ's bash at Vintage was packed as well and was a good time - drinks were expensive, but that's a given.

Look out Thursday! Looks like Friday is taking its territory back!

Stay Fab! :)

Recap: Boston Fashion Week: “Shoe Diva”- An Evening of Footwear and Fashion | Hello Stiletto | Macy's

Fabulously submitted by BostonFab! Correspondent Chanelle

Admit it…every woman has a fashion addiction and for many, the drug of choice is SHOES! On Wednesday, September 17th, at 6:00 p.m., I found confirmation for this theory when I joined numerous fellow shoe addicts at “Shoe Diva” – An Evening of Footwear and Fashion, hosted by Hello Stiletto* and Macy’s, at Macy’s Downtown Crossing (450 Washington Street, Downtown). Accompanied by Fab! Friend Michelle and her Fab! co-worker Jocelyn, I headed to the Women’s Shoe Department and found a line of business-casual clad ladies, waiting patiently to receive a yellow armband , denoting their 21+ age status, and a complimentary Fashion Boston tote.

Waiting patiently to enter Shoe Diva heaven!

Once we’d obtained our armbands and totes, Michelle, Jocelyn, and I made our way to the cocktail area, but quickly met with a substantial line of attendees who were waiting to get their drink on, so we opted to do a little shoe shopping first. Sadly, I was a little disappointed with Macy’s shoe selection. The event had advertised a showing of the season’s hottest footwear, yet I definitely spied quite a few styles that screamed “Summer ’08”…yikes! While we perused the shoes, we were treated to hors d’oeuvres, including mozzarella and spinach skewers, courtesy of The Ivy, which were served by three, male models, who were quite easy on the eyes…wink-wink…

Nothing like some eye candy while you do a little shoe shopping-:)

Now, that's food presentation!

After a half hour or so, we decided to give the bar another try. This time around, we were successful and rewarded with our choice of three delicious cocktails, provided by Beija Chachaca Vodka. Crowd favorites appeared to be the Beija Clear Storm and the Beija Blueberry Bliss, which incorporated the flavors of ginger beer and blueberries, respectively. While enjoying our cocktails, Michelle, Jocelyn, and I noticed that M.A.C. make-up artists had set-up shop in a corner, to give mini-makeovers, which many women were taking advantage of, pre-and post-shoe purchases.

Ready, Set, Shop!

As 7:00 p.m. rolled around, everyone’s attention was drawn to the runway that had been set up in the middle of the shoe department. A Macy’s representative, along with, Hello Stilletto founder, Melissa O’Shea took to the stage and proceeded to inform the crowd of the hottest upcoming trends in shoe styles everywhere, from open-toed booties to stacked heel oxfords. To accompany them, a bevy of models walked the runway, showcasing a variety of Macy’s offerings in fall shoe styles. Music for the fashion show was provided by Soulclap, a Boston-based company, specializing in dance music. At times, I couldn’t help but be distracted from the fashion show, by Soulclap’s DJs, who appeared to be enjoying their musical selections, a little too much…let’s just say, it was a bit reminiscent of a “Night At The Roxbury”…LOL…

Killer magenta pumps, by BCBGirls

Following the show, attendees were invited to participate in a “walk-off” competition, where they strutted their stuff and their own fabulous shoes, for a chance to win the title of “Best In Shoe.” After 37 models-in-the-making, had their moment in the spotlight, the grand prize went to a young woman, sporting leopard-print stilettos. There were definitely individuals who some believed had been cheated of the title, specifically a sista’ rockin’ some killer yellow heels…go ahead, girl!

Everyone needs a pair of leather black boots

Despite no purchases made by us, the evening was quite enjoyable and an entertaining reminder that a woman can never have too many shoes!

*Hello Stiletto is a FREE social club for individuals who love shoes. Originally founded in Boston in 2004, the club has grown to over 6,000 members in eleven cities. Check out their website for local events, where you can rock your favorite pumps, stilettos, or boots!

Recap: Michael Jackson vs. Prince | DJ's at the Garden

When I entered the Micheal Jackson vs. Prince Party at DJ's at the Garden (222 Friend Street) I was greeted with a shimmery streamer curtain on the door. And saw the dance floor was filled with dancing bodies including that of the host Tito Jackson who was wearing a gleaming sliver shirt, valour pants and leopard print platforms. Yes, I said leopard print. Later to put on a purple jacket and a wig wraped with a scarf.

Party dancers and host Tito Jackson in his purple leisure suit

At the bar I made myself at home to watch the action. This was not the night to fly solo as everyone seemed to have brought their dancing partners and didn't make any room for a new comer like me. They were dancing like it was their 9-5 complete with memorization of every lyric. The age range was late 20's to mid 30's, but the international crowd was unfortunately stand-off ish.

Most people kept their attire to a disco sheik, maybe a lace glove here or there, a pack of ladies came in with the name tag PYT - which I thought was clever. A group took it a little too far with ripped t-shirts and blood on their faces, which I assumed they were meant to be zombie's from Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

More of the crowd getting down...

On the screens throughout the bar they were playing Michael Jackson videos and I forgot just how incredibly disturbing the "You are not Alone" video is without sound...talk about ewwwww!

DJ Sun-One, certainly kept the battle fair by playing a even amount of Micheal's songs with Prince's and even mixed in some other artists who sampled their hits like Rhianna and Justin Timberlake.

I also got to chat it up with Greg who assists with Downtimeonline.com let me know that the site will be up and running by tomorrow Sept. 22!! Let 'em know where you heard it first!

For the people who danced and mingled this party they certainly were having an A time. As for me - next time I'll be sure to bring my dancing partners. This was not a game.

Oh and as for the battle? Hands down - Prince.

Stay Fab! ;)

Recap: Macallan Tasting | Back Bay Event Center

I recruited my Fab! Friend Melissa and her Ultra Fab! cousin Eddie to go to the Macallan tasting at the Back Bay Event Center. Fortunately for once all of our names were on the list and we were given a comment card and a drink coin.

Fab! Friends and cousins Eddie and Melissa

For those who don't know, which I did not either until like a week ago Macallan is a scotch whiskey. Now y'all I don't do the whole dark liquor thing, so this was my first experience with a fine whiskey - I mean I don't think Jack Daniels counts :)

Our group was escorted downstairs of the center were it had been transformed into a classy bar area. There were tv's all over the room displaying images of of the Macallan brand and sweeping images of Scottish landscapes.

We took our seats at our candle lit table complete with a silver carafe and ice bucket. Our sever (dressed in black complete with a black ear piece) said he would be there to help us with whatever we needed. Our coin was to be utilized for our first drink and could help ourselves to the hors d' oeuvres of crackers and cheese. They also had passed hors d' ourves of jumbo shrimp and brazen beef on skewers.

Seating in the presentation room

Our host started his presentation about this fine single malt whiskey on this super cool touch screen which takes PowerPoint into the next century. During the presentation we learned a lot about about whiskey and how the word literally means "the water of life" as at the time it was created whiskey was safer to drink than water. Whiskey and Scotch are actually the same thing. People use Scotch as the word for whiskey's that come from Scotland as opposed to other countries (kinda like champagne comes from the city of the same name in France, Preseco is from Italy...but they are both sparkling wines) that their whiskey is aged in Spanish oak casts which is they spend 25 million dollars on the wood alone each year. And we even learned a Scottish toast pronounced "slange!"

The ultra cool presentation touch screen

Throughout the presentation whenever the Macallan symbol came on the presentation we got passed a round of tastings of the 10, 15, 17, 21 and 30 variety of whiskeys name for the number of years they spend in the oak barrels before bottling. This is some expensive stuff (around $90 a bottle) - I am in no way prepared to be a full time Macallan whiskey drinker. Plus it's like 45% alcohol!

Fab! Friend Melissa and BostonFab!

The presented was really excellent and at the end of the night we got a nice gift bag with a hat, a glass and a little booklet that described the whiskey's we tasted.

The presentation was absolutely fab! and we had a wonderful time. Definite A.
