Mini-Recap : S.U.E.D.E | Vintage Lounge

On Friday The Ladies of S.U.E.D.E. hosted their Part 2 of the Fall Line at Vintage (72 Broad Street) to celebrate member Caselle's birthday.

There were a couple of things that were strange right off the bat as I entered this party. I showed up around 12 a.m. and the place was hardly full, but there was a line. At points they didn't have the back room open, not sure why, although by the lack of people it was probably a good move. There was no coat check, though the staff was friendly. The bar line was ridiculous and the bartenders had difficulty keeping up.

The beautiful people did show out in their suits and party dresses and signature colonges...no funk here!! :) But the crowd size was minimal throughout the night. And only a few die hards really got into the mix.

DJ Drama was spinning was much more upbeat than the last party, but the vibe was still missing something. To try and gain some perspective I asked some non-dancing patrons what they thought of the party. Quotes are paraphrased.

Source A: (1 a.m.) "I'm ready to go and have been for a while. This wasn't advertised well."
Source B: "I really feel like I'm at a high school party. If I had to give this party a grade I would give it a C."

Ouch!

Another fo pa' was towards the end of the night I saw promoters MJ and R.O.B. stopped by to pay their respects and were denied at the door. Not a good look!

The dismal crowd could have been due to the holiday weekend and lack of advertising. Also putting a price of a party so high $15 the same weekend as blow out bashes on Sunday put them at a disadvantage to lesser priced venues like 360 just up the street. I also got a few inquiries about the name - "The Fall Line" - people were unsure if this was a fashion show or a party. As usual I gots to keep it real and stick with my Source 2's recommendation to put this party at a C.

Sorry ladies!!

Mini Recap: R&B Lounge Session | Vintage Lounge

Your girl wanted to start her weekend off right (yes, my weekends begin on Thursdays :)) and head to one of her favorite spots, Vintage Lounge (72 Broad St, Financial District) - it's kinda like my Cheers - cue theme song...lol... I was surprised finding a parking spot was a challenge, but I still managed to make it in before 11.

Heading inside the crowd was a bit sparse, but the ratio was decent and there was a very chill, relaxed vibe.

Photo: Alonzo Harris from J. Francois

Alonzo Harris
(& Family :) ) and Band performed around 11:30 and they were jammin'. He did about 5 songs, one of my fav's being their rendition of Common's "I want you". Alonzo even had a little help from his brother on one song - the name escapes me now....J? Where is my notepad!!? - but it was so friggin' entertaining, waving hands, spins, falsetto...a really fun good time. And the guitarist was killin' it!! Loved it!!

After his set DJ Eight 2 got on the tables and I was happy that he kept the tempo in groove mode with old skool R&B and I didn't move straight into the Lolli Pop remix. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

If they try this night again, which I think they should, I would start it a bit earlier, as most people seemed to head out before 1 a.m. And I, as well as others were a bit disappointed that live music set was so short. The set up was a little awkward, I think more people would have enjoyed the live music, had they a place to sit. To make things more uncomfortable when the DJ started there were still tables on the dance floor area, which made an already small space, even smaller which discouraged people from dancing.

That aside, I enjoyed the laid back evening of live music, a nice drink, and just chillin'. That's just the way I like to spend my Thursday nights :). Hopefully the guys will do it again.

Stay Fab! :)

Recap: Envy Saturdays | Vintage Lounge

After Facing Love, I headed to one of my favorite venue's Vintage Lounge (72 Broad St., Financial District) to check out the weekly party Envy Saturdays hosted by Klutch.

Unfortunately, my favorite bartender was not in the house, so I wasn't able to get the famed raspberry cupcake martini, but I did have the Key Lime Pie martini and it was DELICIOUS! I had to hand it to the all-female bar staff of last night, they were working hard, schlepping crates of glasses to the back, manning the bar making drinks - and making them well - all without coping an attitude. A very good look.

Photo: Feelin' that reggaton with DJ Jr. Vega

As for the two rooms, I still don't understand how they get away with calling this a two room venue, but they do. DJ Jr. Vega was shuttin' 'em down in the Latin room, both girls and guys were showing their salsera y tumbao for real.

In the main room I surely felt I was back in college! The crowd, age ranged from about 21 - 24 (heavy on the 21), were battling, showing off and doing some serious get-a-room-please grinding. A bubble dress and heels were the uniform for the ladies (I didn't get the memo) and aviators and white rim glasses were a staple for the dudes.

Photo: Main room partyers

DJ Backspin was killin' it! I think I found my new favorite DJ. Although he played mostly hits from the early 2000, he mixed in the new with a lil' bit of reggae at just the right moments. I loved that he actually mixed the songs, and didn' t just let them play all the way through like he didn't have enough material. There was a point to the set.

Photo: DJ Backspin on the job

You heard from him a few times to give a shout out for a birthday...but none of this "Do my ladies run this...where my bill payers at?..." every other second. He let the music speak for itself. And with no equipment slip ups or blown speakers, everybody was dancing until 2 a.m. Quite a feat for a Boston DJ! Mad props!

So, my advice, if you aren't afraid to really get your dance on, want to do more than be stared at from across the room and aren't scurred to show them what you workin' with - head out to Vintage Lounge on a Saturday, 'cuz that's what's up.

Stay Fab! :)

ReCap: The Good Life | Vintage Lounge

I rolled up to Broad Street around 10 and got a prime parking spot just outside of the Vintage Lounge (75 Broad St) When I walked up to the door I was greeted by the usually friendly staff, and immediately after I walked through the door someone came in to take my coat for free…nicccceeee.

My ears, though were a bit confused with techno blasting in one ear and smooth sounds of soul rifting through the other…guess which way I went?:) The small lounge area was wall to wall with beautiful people strewn on leather couches, listening to the sounds of Alonzo Harris and 6 fingers band - at least I think that was the name …there were only 3 of the band members there, but it was easy listening as I sipped on my Raspberry Cupcake Martini courtesy of the bartender Patrick.

(Fab! CFO Erika and BostonFab! Tiffany)

After his set the party started to pick up and me and my girls moved into the other room where fortunately the music had changed up. As I started to feel the rhythm I starte to get this strange feeling that something just wasn’t right – perhaps it was the swish swish of weave on my bare back or when Usher’s “I wanna make love in this club” came on I was surrounded by metallic skirts and waving manicured hands with no dude in sight– yes, my friends the ratio was waaaay off kilter - like 12 to 1 – no lie- I felt like I was in a friggin’ R&B music video watin' for somebody to make it rain. To make matters worse the dance floor was so tight you could barely move, let alone dance, so I got to perfect my two-step (lol).

DJ Select did play a better set as opposed to the techno and latin laden FLAUNT, but he still played a couple songs more than once and at one point the music stopped all together for a solid minute…now that may not seem like much time, but when you got a 1:40 a.m. cut off, every second counts.

I can’t lie though, of the brotha’s that were in there – all 15 of them – they were lookin’ good, and the women dag man!!! – I gotta step my game up ‘cuz they were seriously showing out…J. Francois and Mr. K.Pritty def’ bring the sexy ladies so fella’s last night you coulda had your pick.

(Promoters J. Francois, Sammy and K. Pritty)

I must say, I am proud that they consistently keep their events classy with no drama (at least in public) :) and at the end of the night I felt ushered out rather than hurded which was also a good look.

All in all it was a good production – ‘cuz at this point they can no longer be classified as just parties – they definitely got people to come out but…the male to female ratio put made it a chick fest - couple that with a serious lack of space - puts this party at a B+.

Keepin' it fab all day every day!

*Side note: A HUGE congrats/best wishes ;) to J. Francois!! Black love is oh-so-fabulous!

Recap | Vintage Lounge

When I arrived at Vintage Lounge I was greeted by two incredibly friendly doormen who were apologetic when my name was not on the list (I had RSVP’d twice). The cover was only $10 so I wasn’t too upset...but still. Let's get it together. Once I got in I was greeted by Mistrie who had recognized me from my profile on Going.com – (he isn't a fan of people knowing his real name) - when I told him about the door situation he offered to buy me a drink to make up for it, drinks were $14...so I ended up ahead of the game.

Complete with dimmed lighting for an intimate affect and full length windows that surround the two l-shaped bars; the lounge has a very chill vibe.  Unfortunately there wasn't a large crowd, but it was mixed...from frat boys to the YBP.

One drawback was the dueling DJ’s. They had one DJ in the dance area - where no one was - and another in the bar area. There was only about 20 ft of space between the two so if you entered the bar area you got one ear full of Timbaland and another earful of Blink 182...kinda pointless.

My friend Jax and I were offered a seat at the bar and struck up a conversation with the bartender Patrick who made us his signature drink “The Raspberry Cupcake”…I don’t know the exact ingredients, but it had raspberry Stoli and graham cracker crumbs around the rim of a tall martini glass with a fresh raspberry and mint garnish. The drink tasted like a real frosted raspberry cupcake…YUMMY! So when you stop by ask for Patrick and get his drink - tell him Tiffany sent you :)

The rest of their drink menu selection is incredibly good as well. Jax tried their Key Lime Pie Martini and her glass was full of frothy ribbons of lime meringue goodness.

I give Vintage Lounge an A+ for the chill atmosphere, the friendly staff (I have not met a staff more accommodating anywhere else in Boston), and a sinfully good drink selection. I will most definitely hit up another Mistrie event there!

3.28 Vintage Lounge | The Black Affair

Mistrie & CAN Entertainment presents The Black Affair at Vintage Lounge (72 Broad Street, Downtown). They ask that you arrive in upscale attire; black of course (AHH! I am so sick of the dresscodes!)...maybe they'll lighten up with warmer weather, though I doubt it. General Admission is $10.

If you join the Members Lounge (I'm a proud member!!) entry is free, plus you get advanced notice and free admission to all other events that Mistrie hosts...not bad! I think he's one of the only promoters that realizes when you let people in for free you won't lose money...we just spend more on liquor!

First Friday's continued...

Mistrie is hosting an ultra classy exclusive First Friday's event at Vintage Lounge (72 Broad Street, Financial District) with DJ Bigg poppin’ off nothing but the hits.

The Lounge is upscale but not very big, so I’m unsure if this is THE spot for First Friday’s. But - if you get on Mistrie’s Members Lounge List you can get in free. Email your full name, zip code and e-mail address here to be added to the list.
