Mini Recap: Friday Night

Okay y'all so I tried....I really tried, but the weather did end up getting to me :( But I did make out on Friday to OM (92 Winthrop St, Harvard Square, Cambridge) - I love this place! And it was PACKED! The crowd ended up being evenly mixed international, as well as the guys to gals ratio...cutie DJ Eight-2 - I gotta say this guy is like the calmest DJ on the planet...it's like he goes into Zen mode when he's spinning - did a great job of catering to this eclectic audience. Even the staff was getting in on the action!

Only draw backs would be the bars; the drinks were weak and the service was slow (though I have endured worse) and there are not enough bathroom stalls - Somebody - I'm not mentioning any names or acronyms ;) - used the women's bathroom instead of waiting for the men's when I was next in line -uh- manners, thanks!) But I did have a great time dancing and minglin'. Def. A.

I also got a chance to have a chat with the Socialite/Community Activist Chip Greenridge and Herby of Poetic Escape. Chip let me in on how the Greatest Minds has a meeting with Mayor Menino to discuss the possibility of funding the creation of proposals for 5 new urban establishments (2 on Blue Hill Ave) in Boston as well as strategize the appropriate way to do "let-outs" and having more police cooperation. You heard it on BostonFab! first! This is one meeting you will NOT want to miss! Details forthcoming! He and Herby also spent time at the Hyatt for Nu Soul and reported that it was well attended and said Black Ice had an outstanding performance.

My sources also say that MJ's bash at Vintage was packed as well and was a good time - drinks were expensive, but that's a given.

Look out Thursday! Looks like Friday is taking its territory back!

Stay Fab! :)

Mini Recap: R&B Lounge Session | Vintage Lounge

Your girl wanted to start her weekend off right (yes, my weekends begin on Thursdays :)) and head to one of her favorite spots, Vintage Lounge (72 Broad St, Financial District) - it's kinda like my Cheers - cue theme song...lol... I was surprised finding a parking spot was a challenge, but I still managed to make it in before 11.

Heading inside the crowd was a bit sparse, but the ratio was decent and there was a very chill, relaxed vibe.

Photo: Alonzo Harris from J. Francois

Alonzo Harris
(& Family :) ) and Band performed around 11:30 and they were jammin'. He did about 5 songs, one of my fav's being their rendition of Common's "I want you". Alonzo even had a little help from his brother on one song - the name escapes me now....J? Where is my notepad!!? - but it was so friggin' entertaining, waving hands, spins, falsetto...a really fun good time. And the guitarist was killin' it!! Loved it!!

After his set DJ Eight 2 got on the tables and I was happy that he kept the tempo in groove mode with old skool R&B and I didn't move straight into the Lolli Pop remix. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

If they try this night again, which I think they should, I would start it a bit earlier, as most people seemed to head out before 1 a.m. And I, as well as others were a bit disappointed that live music set was so short. The set up was a little awkward, I think more people would have enjoyed the live music, had they a place to sit. To make things more uncomfortable when the DJ started there were still tables on the dance floor area, which made an already small space, even smaller which discouraged people from dancing.

That aside, I enjoyed the laid back evening of live music, a nice drink, and just chillin'. That's just the way I like to spend my Thursday nights :). Hopefully the guys will do it again.

Stay Fab! :)

Recap: Feel The Vibe Saturday | Blue Wave

Fabulously submitted by
Boston Fab! Correspondent A-Marie

After a brief stint at Z Square last Saturday, I headed over to The Blue Wave (343 Congress Street, Downtown) for Feel the Vibe Saturdays. Shortly after midnight, there wasn't a line...and the ever-helpful bouncer suggested a great parking spot! You get major cool points for the tip man!

At first, I was concerned. No line = nobody inside, but they assured me at coat check that the crowd was cool. My girl and I reluctantly paid the $15 cover thinkin' this better be good.

Inside, I have to admit that The Wave wasn’t as packed as it usually gets. Some people were dressed very casual while others took the time to get their hair fried, dyed and laid to the side! There were even a few people rocking tuxedos and ball gowns from a wedding that happened earlier in the day.

(Photo: Boston Fab! Correspondent A-Marie and Boston Fab! fan Monique)

Still, the bar was jam packed! Amanda, a bartender, whipped us up something fun, a Malibu Martini, which was a fairly priced $10. It was kind of on the sweet side but soooo goooood! She could not only make a great concoction but she also could handle herself well when it came to helping out the she-had- a-few-too-many-drinks-girl next to me. Ugh.

The best part of the night was the music by far. DJ Eight-2 did his thing! The minute I hit the dance floor my roller set was done! LOL.

(Photo: Blue Wave party-goers feeling that DJ Eight-2)

The Blue Wave will always remain a staple on the club scene in Boston. My man Rob definitely knows how to throw a party!

*Inside Scoop* I hear Rob's starting a new event at Privus Lounge called Sophisticate Fridays. The grand opening is this Friday, May 30th!

Check back on BostonFab! for more details!

Recap: Classic Friday’s at Z-Square

So after several weeks of numerous texts, e-mails and phone calls from So Good Entertainment asking us to PLEASE come back! Fab! CFO Erika and I headed out to Classic Fridays (Previously called Off the Wall Fridays) at Z Square (14 JFK St, Cambridge).  I have to admit I was a bit skeptical since we had gone to Classic Fridays several months ago at another location and it was... well – wack, but everyone deserves a second chance, right?

We showed up early enough that entrance to the party was free, although the flyer advertised that it was $10. The promoter, Edgar was also supposed to be passing out free shots, but with all the running around he was doing that never materialized. Did I mention that I hate false advertising?!

There was a pretty decent young crowd (the average age was around 22) though they might as well be called Harvard Friday’s as ninety percent of the patrons were Harvard affiliated. The vibe was very chill, almost too chill. I felt kind of awkward...almost like I was at a cocktail party and should of brought a date. Everyone seemed to know one another and if they didn’t they weren’t really open to meeting anyone new. Still, this was the first time in a long time that I showed up to any place in jeans, a cardigan with my glasses on and still had a decent time dancing and socializing. Big ups to the “Men with Jobs” who got our drinks for the night. One time for Cordell!!

DJ Eight-Two did his thing and played mostly reggae. The unfortunate thing is that he has the tendency to cut songs off right as they were getting good (boo!). To sum it up, there was a lot of standing around and drinking, and not very much dancing.

I would recommend this place as a Friday night alternative when you just want to come as you are and have a drink with friends – though you might need to bring your own.

Stay Fab! :)
