4.03 F.A.M.E. | Via Matta

The first Wednesday of every month Via Matta (79 Park Plaza, Boston) holds F.A.M.E. short for Fashion. Art. Music. Enoteca, which is a gathering for socializing, networking and complementary cocktails and apps.

DJ Justin Freeman and other local DJ's spin tunes from 7 - 9 p.m., but the party continues until the wee hours of the morning if you can hang that long (I know I gotta get up early).

Admission is FREE. For more information call 617.422.0008.

Recap | Vintage Lounge

When I arrived at Vintage Lounge I was greeted by two incredibly friendly doormen who were apologetic when my name was not on the list (I had RSVP’d twice). The cover was only $10 so I wasn’t too upset...but still. Let's get it together. Once I got in I was greeted by Mistrie who had recognized me from my profile on Going.com – (he isn't a fan of people knowing his real name) - when I told him about the door situation he offered to buy me a drink to make up for it, drinks were $14...so I ended up ahead of the game.

Complete with dimmed lighting for an intimate affect and full length windows that surround the two l-shaped bars; the lounge has a very chill vibe.  Unfortunately there wasn't a large crowd, but it was mixed...from frat boys to the YBP.

One drawback was the dueling DJ’s. They had one DJ in the dance area - where no one was - and another in the bar area. There was only about 20 ft of space between the two so if you entered the bar area you got one ear full of Timbaland and another earful of Blink 182...kinda pointless.

My friend Jax and I were offered a seat at the bar and struck up a conversation with the bartender Patrick who made us his signature drink “The Raspberry Cupcake”…I don’t know the exact ingredients, but it had raspberry Stoli and graham cracker crumbs around the rim of a tall martini glass with a fresh raspberry and mint garnish. The drink tasted like a real frosted raspberry cupcake…YUMMY! So when you stop by ask for Patrick and get his drink - tell him Tiffany sent you :)

The rest of their drink menu selection is incredibly good as well. Jax tried their Key Lime Pie Martini and her glass was full of frothy ribbons of lime meringue goodness.

I give Vintage Lounge an A+ for the chill atmosphere, the friendly staff (I have not met a staff more accommodating anywhere else in Boston), and a sinfully good drink selection. I will most definitely hit up another Mistrie event there!

4.4 | FLAUNT whatcha Mamma gave ya...

The spring season is kickin' off something fierce here in The Bean and K.Pritty and J. Francois want you to Flaunt what you got. Their parties are starting to feel like an R. Kelly music video series...First there was Privilege, then Luxe and now Flaunt...eh...but I ain't mad 'cuz so far the parties have been ULTRA classy and a fab time.

They are taking over one of my favorite party spots: Umbria (295 Franklin Street, Financial District)...the ambiance is bangin' in this place! There's something for everyone with three levels of entertainment including DJ Select gettin' you good and sweaty. I suggest that you dust off your freakum dress, get a new doo or new boo ;) and FLAUNT it with the best of 'em. I already know what I'll be flauntin' - you'll have to show up at the party to find out what ;)

For advance tickets call K.Pritty at (617) 447 9219 - this is his promo number baby - don't get all stalker on a brotha - I know times is hard, but still... You can also e-mail here. FYI the $20 advanced ticket situation is a little complicated (they aren't doing electronic transactions) but work with 'em. It should be well worth it.

Tell 'em you saw it on The Fab Empire!

3.28 Vintage Lounge | The Black Affair

Mistrie & CAN Entertainment presents The Black Affair at Vintage Lounge (72 Broad Street, Downtown). They ask that you arrive in upscale attire; black of course (AHH! I am so sick of the dresscodes!)...maybe they'll lighten up with warmer weather, though I doubt it. General Admission is $10.

If you join the Members Lounge (I'm a proud member!!) entry is free, plus you get advanced notice and free admission to all other events that Mistrie hosts...not bad! I think he's one of the only promoters that realizes when you let people in for free you won't lose money...we just spend more on liquor!

Recap: Almost Spring| 9 Alarms!

I headed out to the Hyatt for the 9 Alarms! Almost Spring event. I was so glad that I bought my ticket online for $21.47 because they were $30 at the door!

For all the money I spent to get in, I'm glad coat check was free.
I got inside early enough to see that they had a reggae room…nobody was in there but if you started feenin’ for that island flavor…that was the place to go.

The local band Soultron was pretty good; the lead singers had some pipes. Still, towards the end of their set the liquor must have kicked in because they started to sound like Sexual Chocolate from Coming to America. One of the singers said “my girl”, the other echoed “my girl…” but I guess the other guy didn't quite get what he was talking about so again he cooed “my girl” and this went on for a good 2 minutes…(“Sexual Chocolate ladies and gentlemen Sexual Chocolate!”)

(Photo: I see you playa!)

Around 11:30 PM the DJ got to the tables and I am not sure if it was DJ Lifted or DJ T Clark, but he was JAMMIN’!!

Now let’s talk about the crowd. There was everything from girls in tube dresses to chicks in full length ball gowns. To some people I asked myself, “Is that child wearing a shirt!!??” I saw more tattoos on chicks than in a prison ward. We had pimp hats with feathers, to newsboys with matching vests. From the 40-somethings to the black professional to the “gurl I know you got in with your fake ID." Your baby daddy to your future husband….ya dig? Suffice to say it was a MIX, but the place was wall to wall packed!! I'm glad it was held in the hotel ballroom so there was plenty of room to move around.

Highlight of the night: in addition to the section where you could take your picture at the event (WHY??? Did I mistakenly come to a high school dance???) They served hors d’ oeuvres; eggs, hash browns and turkey bacon. I KID YOU NOT! Eh’ I did have me some eggs and hash browns and they were slammin’ – but was it fab? Ummm that would be a no. There were only three bars with one bartender each so you know lines for a drink were long.

(Photo: Is that hot sauce??...yes it is)

Continuing with the un-fabness of this event, there was a brief altercation between a female and some guy, but security contained the fight pretty quickly and the party continued. *sigh.

Final Thoughts: This party opened my eyes to the fact that there are many different types of people in Boston… you just have to be uh- open. At a party like this you could act any kinda way…nobody was there to judge you, so if you wanna pull out that two tone weave boo…you do you.

(Photo: Chandeliers and jeans...interesting)

My advice to 9 Alarms!, you obviously know how to cater to a more local crowd so keep doin’ your thing - just don’t try to put “Grown’ n’ Sexy” or “Classy Event” to any of your party titles, ‘cuz ain’t nothing grown or classy about your events – keep it real. My advice to my readers, if you are looking for something different and aren’t feelin’ boughie stop by a 9 Alarms! party. Otherwise save your money for the let out at IHOP, it’ll be about the same.

*Oh the things I go through for y'all!

Keep it fab! :)

Saturday 3.15 | Ring the Alarm at the Hyatt Regency

The self proclaimed “hottest” firemen in Boston of 9! Alarms Entertainment – (Actually, I’ve seen pics of them, they are pretty cute) - are hosting a It's Almost Spring (boo! to the party title) on Saturday at the Hyatt Regencey Hotel (1 Avenue De Lafayette, Downtown). Featuring DJ’s T. Clark and Lifted, with performances by comedian Corey Manning and Soultron

Don’t worry if the party gets too hot, you are with trained professionals ; ). These guys only host events in Boston every now and again – they have some serious day job’s y’all - so go on and check them out. As for the crowd, expect a broad range - from young professionals to the grown n' sexy - just watch out for the playa with the pressed hair totin' a pimp cup - he might be more than you can handle!

Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance (Probably around $30 at the door).

Recap: Baileys Presents Jill Scott

Your girl is tired this morning! The doors opened at 9 PM, but Jill Scott didn't show up until 12 and then she didn’t even sing! She just introduced some dude, whose name I can't remember. By that time, I was too through!

Although Jill Scott's performance was a bust (I shoulda paid the $40 for her concert), Bailey’s did a great job of keeping us entertained. The drinks were great and fun! I had a caramel apple martini which was very tasty and packed a punch! (You only need one of those babies!) To add to my enjoyment; it didn’t cost me a thing! They also served passed hors ‘d oeuvres of calamari, mini pizzas and hamburgers and had various snack foods at the bar.

The Beehive (541 Tremont St.) itself was very inviting with exposed brick walls and a cozy atmosphere. This definitely seems like a good lounge place, maybe after work, but I don’t know how I would feel about going to a show there, the stage is teeny tiny and awkwardly placed.

And yes, you know the people were complaining about them not having a coat check. Though they did provide hooks on the walls (What ?!?! Are we in grade school??). In the dark, a Gucci leather jacket can look the same as one from Target so I wouldn’t chance it if your stuff is expensive.

To add to the ambiance of the place, the beautiful people showed out y’all! I haven’t seen that many fine brotha’s in one place in a while…My neck is still sore from whiplash...the ladies looked good too. :)

So in the end although there was no Jilly from Philly it ended up being a great evening to mix and mingle amongst the beautiful people - nice.

Check back for this week's picks!

Stay Fab :)!

Recap: Paradise Party at Z Square

I strolled into the Paradise party at Z Square (580 Commonwealth Ave) before the 11 PM cut off and entered a party with a very chill vibe. With tasty hors d’ oeuvres lining a far wall near the bar area for easy access, around 12 the dance floor was packed - only problem - hardly anybody was dancing...

(Photo: BostonFab! Girl in my Metro-Island Wear)

The sound system was wack. It sounded like a speaker was blown! To make matters worse a lot of dudes were straight posted up - acting too scurred to dance. I thought DJ Big would play more reggae and island tunes to the party's theme (I was ready to win' y'all!), but he played mostly Top 40 (boo!).

(Photo: A non-dancing crowd at Z Square)

My advice: Next time promoters throw a themed party they should go over the top with it; lei’s, fake palm trees, party favors, tropical food, tropical music...or just call it what it is:

Another party at Z Square. Save the hype.

Final thoughts: The party was OK…but was not the jump off for Spring.
