Mistrie Presents: First Fridays Boston!

It seems like Boston is taking a party break this weekend to gear up for the Lovers/President's Weekend next week, but here is a something for you to check out:

The promoters of Mistrie present First Friday's at Ivy Lounge (49 Temple Place, Downtown Crossing) This is going to be a classy event and I trust Mistrie won't disappoint.

Admission is $10 before 12 a.m. if you RSVP here. It's $20 after. DJ Eight2, who seems to be at EVERY party lately, will be keepin' the party hype while The Usual Suspecks will soothe your work week blues with live jazz and funk in the lounge.

Recap: Purple Reign at 360 Lounge

Saturday night E1! Live Entertainment threw the Purple Party (I wore a purple belt) at 360 Lounge (33 Batterymarch St., Downtown).

The line was a hassle as usual - dawg, it ain’t that serious. Not to mention a mandatory coat check…ooohkaaay? You had to be on the list (which I wasn’t ) for the $15 cover so we ended up paying $20.

Note: the flyer did not indicate that a list was required for the $15 cover, just that you had to show up before 12:30, which we did.

(Photo: Does his hat say Brown University - really???)

The MANDATORY coat check was an additional $3 (you call it mandatory and then make me pay?) Already agitated, we settled into the most ghetto un-fabulous night in downtown Boston history.

Now we know Boston has a highly educated hodgepodge of cultures and people, but at 360 Lounge, I felt like I had just got kicked off the bus in Ignorantville. The “classy attire” said to be worn was no where in sight, grills a plenty with dudes drinking White Zinfandel out of the bottle pretendin’ it’s Dom Perigon while their friends shot photos for their next album cover - droppin’ in stores Tuesday of NEVER....Wow.

Not that there were that many guys anyway; it was 75% pure... I ain't gonna say it, you be the judge.

(Photo: Oh yes she did boo!)

If you have “I’m So Hood” as your ring tone then this is the place for you – otherwise skip this weekly house party for something more fitting of your fabulosity .

Disclaimer: I ain't got NOTHING against the hood, I just ain't gonna pay $23 bucks for it - you feel me??

K. Pritty and J. Francois | E1 Live! at 360 Lounge

On Friday (1.25.08), K. Pritty and J. Francois are at it again (do these guys ever sleep???) along with Kluch Productions and A1! Entertainment Group are celebrating the 1 year anniversary of Get Fresh Friday's held at the 360 Ultra Lounge (33 Batterymarch St., Downtown). Cost will be $15 and it should be a classy crowd as they stress "proper attire".

---

Saturday (1.26.08) is also boasting of yet another party in honor of the zodiac sign Aquarius - it seems like if you are all out of party themes then [insert zodiac sign here].

The birthday girl is Hermela of 88.9 (ain't nobody heard of that girl until today) But that don't mean you can't party with her. If you are an Aquarius you'll get a reduced admission, but only if you show up before 11:30 p.m.

---

Also on Saturday (1.26.08) E1 Live! launches it's first recurring party at 360 Ultra Lounge (33 Batterymarch St, Downtown) Co-sponsored by Downtimeonline.com.

The club's theme is Black Power The Purple Reign Affair celebrating Rufus's Birthday (who the heck is Rufus?) They are requesting Purple and Black attire, but I'm really getting sick of people telling me what color to wear at the club. It's hard enough finding something to wear without all these dress code restrictions. I might just show up in florescent yellow - whatcha gonna do about it?? Roll up on me playa - what...but I digress... DJ Chubby Chub and DJ Dru Nyce will be featured. It is $15 before 12.

---

So that is what is up this weekend! I will see you around and of course give you the recap! Stay fab dah-lings!

Recap: MLK Weekend

This MLK Weekend your girl ROCKED it like Plymouth (get it Plymouth Rock…?)

It all started with the Chocolate Party at Z-Square (14 JFK Street, Cambridge) on Saturday night (1.19.08). Sorry for those who missed it – as the line was around the block. Although management said they were at capacity, when you got in there only 10 people were on the dance floor – whatevJ. Francois & K. Pritty still delivered with their chocolate fountain, free hors’d oeuvres (I was munchin’ on pretzels all night).

The music was slammin’, the crowd was classy, although at times a little TOO classy (actin’ like they can’t dance no mo’) – but you KNOW your girl was tearin’ it up regardless. Good times….good times.

(Photo: The chocolate fountain)

---

Sunday (1.20.08) at Kings Billards and Bowling (50 Dawlton Street, Back Bay) was a great place to watch the Patriots whip the snot out of the San Diego Chargers (21 – 12).

This event was sponsored by the Black Business Group of Boston from meetup.com. The Perfect Season WILL BE continued on February 3... New England Patriots vs. The New York Giants….New England what what!

---

Later that night, D.J. Kid Capri was spinning at Rumor (100 Warrenton Street, Downtown). The club was FREEZING. Not to mention, the flyer said doors open at 10:30 but somehow we still waited in line in -10 degree weather!!! I mean come on people; get heat lamps if you are going to make people wait outside like that.

(Photo: DJ Kid Capri)

After being molested – I mean frisked – we made it into the club and it was still FREEZING – with a $25 - $35 cover can you pay your heating bill?? Daaaangg. The first guest DJ tried to get the crowd movin’ but as soon as he was half way into a song he was on to the next. BOOOH!!

Finally Kid Capri came on and pulled out some of that dirty dirty while mixin’ it with more popular beats. Kid set the crowd straight by saying “I see dudes trying to look prettier than the females in here? Let’s get this party started!” And that they did just that.

Even the Patriots were kicking it in VIP. By 1:45 a.m. Kid was still high off his own juice telling the crowd they need to sign a petition to have clubs stay open later (who’s he tellin’?) and played a final jam.

Ready to hit it up this weekend? Check back tomorrow for BostonFab! Girls’s weekend pics.

Keep it fab, baby! Shout out to the newest edition to the FabEmpire: ATLFab!

Recap: 33 Lounge | Essence Thursday's

I stopped by 33 Lounge (33 Stanhope Street) to check out The Red Carpet Production's Red Carpet party. First impression: 33 Lounge is nestled on a back street of the Back Bay and wasn't easy to access. There was NO red carpet and the bouncers were more interested in criticizing what people were wearing then checking I.D.'s.

Although I had previously contacted Red Carpet Productions to be on the list, my name was no where to be found. Thanks to the friendly woman at the door, I only had to pay a $5 cover instead of $10.

The venue is gorgeous with lit bars and private comfortable areas to lounge . The first floor was Techno and of course the Hip-hop lounge is in the basement. Woah! The living room in my apartment is bigger than this place!!!! The D.J. was stuffed in the corner with one large bench with 4 tables in front of it. I can't believe they advertised that you could reserve a table at this place - are you kidding???

The bar service was SLOW with only one bartender and a source was offended by the topless women photos that aligned the far walls...I thought this was supposed to be a classy place? As the crowd dwindled around 12 a.m. we decided to call this party a wrap.

---

Essence Thursdays at the Sunshine Lounge in Cambridge is a very nice venue (pic below), but the crowd.... if you can even call it that was ...very very young. Even though the place had maybe 20 people - they made us pay the $10 cover. But I guess they gotta make that money.

(Photo: 'People' at Sunshine Lounge)

Only five people were on the dance floor but DJ Eighty-Two held his own on the turn tables, playing more dirty-south than New York hits. Edgar of So Good Entertainment tried his best to hype the crowd, but had a marginal effect.

My advice to my readers...save your money. Try a happy hour on Thursday's instead. You're Fab girl will work on finding the right spot. And to the promoters why don't yall work on throwing an event together instead of divinding an already small crowd??

Trying to do it BIG this MLK Weekend?? Stay tuned for BostonFab! Girl's picks later this week.

' Til then keep it fab baby.

33 Lounge | The Essence | Club Vertigo

Thursday's has always been the night for the college crowd, but it seems to be growing ever popular on the young professional scene. Boston's promoters and venues are hosting new parties to get you reved up for the weekend.

---

The newest kid on the Thursday scene is 33 Lounge (33 Stanhope Street). In true "fab" style there will be a red carpet (heyyyyyy!!!)

(Photo: A peek of what 33 Lounge looks like)

This is a NG Party and Luxe event and they want to hook you up with 2 floors; one for House music and the other plays that good ole' Hip-Hop.

The flyer boasts FREE ADMISSION, but by now y'all know the deal - bring your wallet 'son.

For VIP reservations click here! Or call Coady 774.535.7560. To get on the guestlist, click here! And this place is so hi-tech, lemme find out you can text the word "reduced" - to 313131, (OMG, that's outta' control!) but unless you got unlimited text and want to receive weekly updates through your phone - I'd stick to e-mail.

---

Down to Earth Media, So Good Entertainment and J. Francois Events
suggest you 'be out' for Essence Thursdays.

If you are sick of being stuck in a suit alllll week and wanna join in while the MIT and Harvard kids get loose, The Essence (1 Kendall Street, Bldg 300, Cambridge) may just be the place for you. Oh yea, leave the timbs at home!

---

Ingenious Concepts
in association with Mistrie presents Demde Thursdays at Club Vertigo (126 State Street).

Although this isn't this fab girl's style - as it boats "The return of the Basement" - you may be one of those people who need to get their "dutty wine" on and I ain't mad atcha!!!

At Demde nights you can dust off them jean shorts and Cyclone that brotha with the dreads down to his waist line. Lemme know how it turns out...though you never know - I might be the girl that just "drop dead" behind you. Fabulously of course (wink).

---

From the red carpets of downtown Boston to the basements of Jamaica Plain - Thursday's are no longer just a pre-game for Friday's.

Recap: Upper Echelon and First Friday's United at Felt Boston

The first week of January is over, but hopefully you are still keeping to those resolutions.

Upper Echelon and First Friday's United hosted the "Appreciation Party" at the Felt Boston (533 Washington St.). An upscale pool hall with modern fair, purple pool tables, plush couches and a snazzy bar on every floor, Felt Boston's third floor was the only acceptable place to be...

The first floor was dedicated to an entirely different party, with music to match. While the music on the 4th floor was an eclectic mix of top 40 and techno.

By 11 pm, the free hor d' oeuvres were gone, but the pool was still free. The crowd was a mix of Black professionals and the ratio of women to men was surprisingly in the women's favor for once.

When people tired from loosing a game of pool, buying drinks or listening to Madonna's "Like a Virgin" for the tenth time, they headed upstairs to the dance floor. But not before they paid the $10 COVER CHARGE....friggin' Boston! Free is never free in this town. Okay so it was only $10 - but it's not the price, it's the principle of the matter.

Pluses: Felt is a great place to hold this type of event with the atmostphere and the crowd. The two levels really gave people the chance to get to know one another before 'bumpin' and grindin'.
Low key + class + pool = a great social atmosphere.

Drawbacks: the music...somebody should have spoken to the DJ or something. Also, where was the coat check?!?! It would have been nice to know your after Christmas sale attire was secure. Lastly, the stairs! From the 1st to the 3rd floor then back to the 2nd to pay your entrance fee to the 4th...it was a bit much!! I guess we all worked off our holiday pounds.

Overall...good job Upper Echelon and United First Fridays - though the party wasn't exactly what I expected, it turned out to be a good time...I'll have to check you out next month.
