Recap: Grand Opening Lounge 33 | 33 Lounge
There have been several nights started at 33 Lounge (33 Stanhope St, Back Bay) that haven’t proved to have much success. Perhaps it's the tucked away location, ‘cuz the ambiance is bangin’ and it's one of the few lounge establishments that actually has a designated dance floor.
My Fab! Friend Jax and I arrived after a quarter to 12 to give the scene a chance to blossom. The night was working against them with bad weather, a Patriots home game and competition with the established crowds of Whiskey Park and District. With all those factors, I still thought the size of the crowd was decent. Their greatest numbers peaked around 12:30.
Fab! Friend Jax and BostonFab!The vibe was crazy nice. It was grown but it wasn’t stank. Women wore what they felt would be appropriate, whether that meant a cute top with some jeans or a bubble dress or a full out prom dress. It was certainly a “do you, but do it well” kinda vibe. And same for the men -lots of newsboy hats. Nice. The music selection also contributed to the grown folk-ness with sexy R&B classics, a touch of reggae and a few latest hits…no Lil’ Wayne but a lil’ T-Pain brought to you by DJ Eight2 – still the smoothest DJ – didn’t say nuttin’ all night. So focused. Love it.
Keepin' it sexy on the dance floorAnd ladies there were some dudes there. And for a while they outnumbered the ladies! Lookin’ good, smellin’ good, dancing…okay so maybe it was like five or six dancing, but that's okay. And none of that grind over you while you’re sitting on the couch…there was space between the dancers and no hard feelings if you needed to take a break.
Evidence: Men do dance in BostonFab! Suggestions for Improvement: Make the dance floor a little cooler towards the night, after all that dancing you get HOT!! Temperature situations can be so fickle. I also strongly suggest opening the coat check. The “VIP” section closest to the dance floor looked more like the bottom of my closet than a comfortable spot to chill. I also recommend the staff do a revamp on their customer service skills. I know with so many promoters on one night errrbody tryin’ to get the hook-up but there is a way to be courteous to people and still do your job. We are in a recession and I do not have to be here, which means you do not have to be employed. Thanks.
I do have to give props to the bartenders for changing out the tonic water when I told them it was flat and making me another drink. That was very courteous - thank you.
Fab! Fan and friend Greg
BostonFab! and Darius of DowntimeonlineBut don’t let my suggestions detour you from going out ‘cuz I certainly got my dance on and broke a sweat. The promoters were very courteous and made sure people were having a good time, so kudos! Definite A - even if it’s for the vibe alone. You kept askin’ for it Boston, but will you actually show up? I’m jus sayin…
Next week (and I believe in the weeks following) will be no cover! So, if you’re looking to check out something different, that's grown but feel-good, where people have fun and actually (gasp!) dance...then this is the spot for you. :)

Recap: Perfection | Umbria
Me and my lovely BostonFab! Photographer and Fab! Friend Deniece headed out to the Perfection party at Umbria (295 Franklin St. Financial District) and found all the buzz to be in that area. There was a boat cruise taking off near the harbor, white outfits scattered through the streets; big ups to the gal sporting a royal blue belt with matching pumps - fierce!
BostonFab! Photographer Deneice looking absolutely fab!
It was nice to enter Umbria on the first floor and not be directed first to the 2nd. The bar area is actually very nice and seems like a great after-work spot. People on this floor were getting registered to vote and proudly wearing their Obama pins. Good look!
After checking this floor out we headed up the long flight of stairs to the 2nd floor where they were playing international music I'm actually starting to like Zouk. :)
BostonFab!
I was a bit concerned as the place was pretty empty around 11:30 and by 12 I was really worried. The only thing that kept me there was the fact that there were a lot of tables with names on them and with the price that it costs to buy a table one would think that they would actually show up. Surprisingly by 12:30 you couldn't even get onto the 3rd Floor!! And it was said to be was at capacity. Which I am not sure I actually believe.
The at capacity 3rd floor...I see a lot of empty space...
The crowd...oh wow...although it was not racially diverse it sure was culturally diverse -heavy on the stunna shades and corn rows. There was no dress code. I was a bit heated that I had worn a nice dress as I really could have been gigin' in some Pumas and jeans. And sorry to say most people were a flamin' hot mess. I will not be rude and point specific people out...but you should know better. Just because it covers your behind does not make it appropriate to be worn in public! Panties are to be worn UNDER the clothes...your "lala" or "tonga" should be shared with that special someone not whilst your being gyrated on in the back of a club...let's work on this women!!
BostonFab! and BostonFab! Photographer Deneice
As for the dudes, most of y'all took the laid back approach, which again - had they said that the dress code was going to be laid back I would have been all for it. Just don't say something is upscale and then let people in wearing jeans - can't stand false advertising. For real. And there were madd dudes!! The male conduct was a bit too touchy feely for my taste. Please learn that approaching a female takes finesse, style and respect - if you want to have a lady in your life - treat her like one - thanks.
Get it Liz!!
The music was on point DJ Playtime did a really good set. And it was actually innovative. Mixing the 50's version of Lollipop with Lil' Wayne was something I certainly hadn't heard before. I really liked that it was a performance rather than just playing song after song, though some songs could have been a bit longer. I did think he could have done a better job of cooling the party down instead of leaving us a bit hyped. Needless to say I avoided the let out... But I really did like his performance - great job.
DJ Playtime
The security was on it, and did their best to control the crowd, though once the 3rd Floor reached capacity proved to be a bit more difficult. And I was certainly watching my surroundings as I saw some people get a bit out of control with it. Or pop off out the mouth like it was nothing...smh.
The dancing was a lot of fun, though I didn't like having to watch my behind (literally) every five minutes. The party didn't really jump off 'til around 1 a.m. and the crowd...well I just never quite found where I fit in. I give this party a C+/B-.

Recap: 5 Year Anniversary | Blue Wave
Flying solo I kept myself perched at the bar to do some people watching. Rob of R.O.B. - I still can't get over that - came and chit-chatted with me for a bit which is a rare (okay has never happened) occurrence. He's actually a pretty nice guy :) (All I want is one gene from your family - just one!!!) - Anyways he has a party concept that I think is going to be great! But...since I know promoters read this - I won't blow up his spot. As soon as it gets off the ground I will def. let y'all know. Don't forget where you (kinda) heard it first!
BostonFab! and promoter Rob of R.O.B.
Although they were celebrating the 5 Year Anniversary of Soulful Saturdays, this was actually my first time to the Blue Wave on a Saturday. The crowd was slightly international, and more of the seasoned and sophisticated crowd. I would say the age range averaged around late 20's to early 30's. DJ Che Boogie stared us off with the old skool R&B which got everyone into a chill and relaxed vibe.
I'm tellin' ya ladies - if you decide to go solo sit at the bar and be genuinely friendly and you'll meet lots of cool people. I even met the infamous Larry of Trillium Salon (49 Gloucester St, Boston) who actually does do great work. Check out the hair of the Asian bartender with the crop cut...nice...
Finally people started kinda dancing around 12 a.m. Though most were content to circulate the room, by chatting with one another rather than dancing. It seemed like the majority of people there were regulars and knew each other. The crowd socializing
Camp Lo got on the mike around 1 a.m. and did his hit "Luchini" (AKA: This is it) and that was it. His set was madd short! And I didn't hear a formal announcement. It could of happened while I was in the restroom or something...but still one song? After his performance DJ Massive got on the tables and hit us with a bit more upbeat music, but still grown. None of that Soulja Boy and Lil' Bow Wow for this crowd.
Camp Lo
Towards the end of the night I decided to mingle a bit more and met Betty a Fab! Fan - (Thanks for reading!!) and a family member of partial owner - I'll call him Mr. Incognito. - who she introduced me to. Thanks for taking the time for a photo op.
BostonFab! and Mr. Incognito BostonFab! and a Fab! Fan!
This was a cool night to see new faces and meet new people I give it a solid B.

Recap: Prestige | Club Venu
If you didn't know about the Prestige party I don't know where you'd been!! E-mail, after e-mail, updates, text messages...dag! I was surprised I didn't get loud speaker announcement when I arrived at the parking garage at work. DAG y'all can we say OVER ADVERTISING.
Yo - K. Pritty and J. Francois...we're comin'. :)
Photo: Already starting to get packed. But, I guess it worked because by the time I arrived at 10:45 p.m. there was already a line around the block. Man-oh-man was I glad that I bought my tickets before hand 'cuz for those who didn't it cost them $30 a pop. OUCH!!
Photo: Deniece and Boston Fab! doining our Fab! thingAnyways so I headed to the bar and it was pricey! I forgot their drinks run around $12 a pop. Me and my girl Deniece tried to get the advertised Roq Candy, but I guess they were only serving it at one bar, and we never found out which one. I saw like one person with the rock candy on the stick. But I wasn't too disappointed because I am not a fan of Hypnotq, but still...can't stand false advertising. And no, I did not see a fashion show, yet again. I wish they would quit advertising that there will be a show when there is never any time for one. Just have people wear the clothes and walk around. It's much easier that way.
Photo: My girl and Boston Fab! Fan, ChanelleAs for the music, um...my new fav DJ Backspin ..has lost his title - just from me, though. He did the typical "Where my ladies at..." and his set was good, but too "commercial" for my taste, I know, I'm picky. But as for the other patrons, they were having a good time dancing and sweating. The ladies certainly ran the floor, though it is rare that they don't *sigh. The dance floor got packed QUICK!, making the temperature rise just as fast. I dunno if the air conditioning wasn't working or if there were just so many daggone people, but yeah, I was literally gasping for air at some points.
In Room 2, DJ Massive was doin' his thing, but unfortunately nobody stayed over there except to cool off from Room 1. I am not exactly sure what was going on...he had some equipment issues at a couple of points, and though the songs were good, it just never amounted to anything that made people want to be in there as opposed to Room 1.
Photo: Room 2 kinda empty....Round 1 goes to DJ Backspin :)
At 11:45, The door was still crazy and, my friend, who had pre-bought tickets, left because the pre-paid line was too long. I told her to get there early!! I'm sure she wasn't the only one so for those of you who paid, but didn't get in - ooooh sorry! Party foul!
One key ingredient that was missing from this party was the presence of K. Pritty and J. Francois. Don't get me wrong, I was glad they were on their game and were some hustlin' mo' fo's, but I know that people missed their time to shine with them and chit chat.
The Photographer, Daniel, was on his game though and caught some interesting candids.
Photo: Promoters K. Pritty and J. Francois sandwich Ms. DenieceThe ladies were def, on their game. Guys. Don't ever say that J and Pritty don't bring out the ladies because they do! You can find a wifey, a boo, a grind-for-one-night. They were all there! Lookin' good ladies! And they really stuck with the upscale...classy... okay well...kinda...depends on how you define classy ;) at least most of them wore clothes that fit their shape. I gotta give them that.
Dudes...you a-ight. SOME of you were dancing...most of you were at the bar....shame, shame shame.
Photo: Dudes on the perimeter as usual...So my thoughts on Prestige was that it was THE place to be at for your pre-4th of July Celebration in Boston, and another somewhat - classy :), fun, night courtesy of the Boston's Promo Kings. But, the crazy line was a blessing and a curse, the sweltering Room 1, the non-existent drink special, and fashion show put this party at a solid B
