Recap: Absolute Liz | Blue Wave
Party girl that I am it is rare that you find me out on a Sunday, unless there is a holiday that is, but...I had to go out and support female promoter Liz from E1 Live! Entertainment and her Absolute Liz birthday party and fundraiser for Papa's Piggybank.
When I walked up I found the red carpet was in place and Liz was there to take pictures with her guests as they arrived. So very cute! When you got inside you got a receipt for your payment - claim in on your taxes if you want - and they gave you a drink ticket for Midori. Niiiccceee. You were encouraged to sign the guest book and one of the many posters along the walls and leave a birthday message.
I arrived mad early, 10:30ish and there the hors d' oeuvres were already on the table, chicken wings, veggie platters and cake. We stopped by the bar to pick up our free drink and then I remembered how much I dislike Midori. It is so sweet! Hey - but that's no fault of Liz's of course...I still drank it - hey - It was still free!
The place was relatively empty until around quarter to 12. Dag Boston...you still treat a Sunday like a club night? Once the crowd showed up the ratio was pretty good, and DJ Chubby Chub was hittin' us with some serious old skool and funk in the beginning then picked up the tempo once it got more crowded.
I was a bit disappointed with the people who decided not to adhere to the dress code, though I must say most people did. Sometimes a bit too much. (Uh dude with the red vest) lol...but seriously I mean this was probably the easiest dress code to follow, red, black, white...whatevs, I'm over it. But Liz looked like she was having a good time, though still ever the hostess, posing for pictures and making sure everybody was taken care of.
I'm glad I came out and once again Happy Birthday Liz!
6.30 Greatest Minds Follow Up Session | Hibernian Hall
Hibernian Hall
(184 Dudley St, Roxbury)
6 - 9 p.m.
These events are open to the public.
Recap: The White Escape | Spirit of Boston
Uh...yeah so none of that happened. First of all, for those of us who bought our tickets on-line had to find people who had envelopes to get our tickets. The ticket booth was not open. And it wasn't like these people wore distinguishing outfits or were in a designated spot with signs or something...no...they were walking around, chatting with friends, and they expected you to find them...errr?
Around 10:15 the boat finally arrived at the dock, which meant they had to get the previous group off the boat and get it ready for our group. So that took another twenty to twenty-five minutes to make that happen. All the while, people are still arriving creating a huge mob scene in the street.
Photo: Picture of the Mob on the Street waiting...
Then this dude makes an announcement that there were to be two lines. One for General Admission and one for VIP on opposite sides of the dock. Okay cool whatever. But they just say it. Nobody moved to help people get to the right area. There were no ropes or dividers, just more chaos and confusion.
Then "they" as we weren't sure who was actually working with The Twins, decided that those of who had tickets had to exchange those tickets for a boarding pass which was on the opposite end of the dock. So if you were in the VIP line you had to wade through 600 people to the complete other side to find the person to exchange your ticket for another ticket that said boarding pass. Makes a lot of sense, hun? Uh- no.
To make matters worse on the boarding pass it said 11 o'clock boarding time 11:30 departure...hmmm okay. I understand that "we" have difficulty being on time, but still...to flat out lie to people...that's wrong, plus if they had their ish together, those of us who were actually on time could of been chillin' on the boat, having a good time waiting for the others to show while the boat was still in port.
Photo: Boston Fab! Mad on the inside.
The madness continued as this already super late boat ride from Hades - as the promoters continued to do last minute VIP hook-ups, taking pictures, schmoozing. I was livid! I am a firm believer if I paid you $ you should be hustlin' to earn it. If you are the organizer of an event then ORGANIZE. Dag! And if thing go wrong at least act like you care. I mean I might have some sympathy if this was their 1st time, but it's annual!!
After all of the craziness I finally got on this boat at 12 p.m. Yes, a entire 2 HOURS late. And do you know what they had to say for all the madness, upset and anger they had created- the DJ stopped his set for a moment to say "The organizers wanted to say that they are really Sorry for the inconvenience." Y'all couldn't even apologize for yourselves? Wow... I mean, can a girl get a coupon for $ of your next event, a drink ticket, a refund??? Ima need a bit more than a second-hand apology.
Photo: The VIP area
They did not have 4 floors of entertainment because of the weather, and one level was VIP so basically it was 2 floors of entertainment. And the first floor was Latin music - so most people were on the 2nd floor doing the old skool thang.
The only thing that made my night was the crowd. Even though it took forever-and-a-day to get on the boat, they still partied and had a grown good time. You had the two tone pink and white weave, the Yaki Nation, sequins and short shorts, with age range averaging around 35+ It was colorful to say the least. But people were very friendly, I met a couple of people who noticed I was by myself in the line and they chatted with me, let me dance with their groups - shout out to Denice!!, let me go before them, or helped me out when I looked lost. Without such a helpful and fun crowd I probably would have grabbed a life jacket and paddled to shore.
Photo: Crowd getting their dance on
So did the crowd make up for the mishaps of the promoters? Uh, that would be a no.
This Fab! first event of the Twins and Friends was probably the worst organized night I have ever experienced in Boston and their nonchalant behavior only added insult to injury.
This event gets a-non-apologetic F.
So unfab!

Mini Recap: R&B Lounge Session | Vintage Lounge
Your girl wanted to start her weekend off right (yes, my weekends begin on Thursdays :)) and head to one of her favorite spots, Vintage Lounge (72 Broad St, Financial District) - it's kinda like my Cheers - cue theme song...lol... I was surprised finding a parking spot was a challenge, but I still managed to make it in before 11.
Heading inside the crowd was a bit sparse, but the ratio was decent and there was a very chill, relaxed vibe.
Photo: Alonzo Harris from J. Francois
Alonzo Harris (& Family :) ) and Band performed around 11:30 and they were jammin'. He did about 5 songs, one of my fav's being their rendition of Common's "I want you". Alonzo even had a little help from his brother on one song - the name escapes me now....J? Where is my notepad!!? - but it was so friggin' entertaining, waving hands, spins, falsetto...a really fun good time. And the guitarist was killin' it!! Loved it!!
After his set DJ Eight 2 got on the tables and I was happy that he kept the tempo in groove mode with old skool R&B and I didn't move straight into the Lolli Pop remix. Thanks man, I appreciate it.
If they try this night again, which I think they should, I would start it a bit earlier, as most people seemed to head out before 1 a.m. And I, as well as others were a bit disappointed that live music set was so short. The set up was a little awkward, I think more people would have enjoyed the live music, had they a place to sit. To make things more uncomfortable when the DJ started there were still tables on the dance floor area, which made an already small space, even smaller which discouraged people from dancing.
That aside, I enjoyed the laid back evening of live music, a nice drink, and just chillin'. That's just the way I like to spend my Thursday nights :). Hopefully the guys will do it again.
Stay Fab! :)

Recap: The Art of Seduction | Z Square
as I had missed the first Restless Entertainment event. Now as you know I have been to Z Square several times, but this time things were a little different.
When I got downstairs I realized there was no need to stress about the dress code. As long as you wore something with white in it (or not)...they let you in - which kinda ruined the whole white only atmosphere, next time I'll take the dress code as a suggestion. A sincere apology for stressin' out my girls :), you looked beautiful (as always).
Photo: My girls and Boston Fab! Fans Jax and Melissa
The place was a lot less crowded than I thought it would be, it was a little bit older crowd, 25+ (heavy on the +) who oddly all seemed to know one another, but that was cool.
In the main dance area they had transformed Z Square a bit, in the far wall of the dance floor they had separated the area with a slide show of photography playing on the wall in the massage station area. I didn't end up getting a massage, but it gave Z Square more of a club ambiance which was nice.
At the bar it was slow as usual, even with less people. One of the female bartenders still had issues making a drink - ie: My girl asked for a mojito and she gave her a Pinot Grigio...I understand that it was loud, but still...
I caught up with Greg? (I thought he said Ray - eh - maybe MY hearing needed to be checked :)) the "Dude with the Dreds" at the DJ Geespin Birthday Party who wouldn't let me buy him a drink last week. As a Fab! Fan he asked me to explain to y'all that the reason that he didn't let me buy him a drink was 1) Not every good deed deserves a reward, it was just the right thing to do to let me go first. 2) He was getting a bunch of drinks and didn't want me to have to pay for all of them. Otherwise he would have happily excepted. Okay Greg-Ray...you are excused! But all you other dudes are still corny :)
Back to the party - around 11:30 they served the food and I had come hungry, so I was really excited. Your girl LOVES to eat by the way. Anyways...thanks for lookin' out for the vegetarians Marlene :) There was hummus, hot pita bread, kilamata olives, chocolate covered strawberries (those went first), bread, smoked cheese, brie and fresh fruit....it was all soooo good! Yummmm.
I never did see how the party was sponsored by Malibu...they said that there would be free drinks being passed, but I never got mines...I guess I was too busy dancing.
Photo: Crowd starting to get into it...
But hey, like I say, if they ain't movin' it probably wasn't a good party. Towards the end Geespin started cutting off songs a bit and numerous reggae transitions could have been smoother, but overall I really liked his set. And I'm convinced all DJ's should end with slow jams :)
I give this party a B+
Hope I'm able to make the next one!
Stay Fab! :)

Recap: The Socialite Party | Stix
When I arrived around 10:30 you could see the shift in the crowd, older people who had come earlier, maybe around 7 p.m. to do the networking thing were leaving and the
I-still-gots-to-get-my-party-on people were showing up.
The crowd was a lot of the same people from the Blue Wave, but also some newcomers, and ladies...this time the ratio was on point! Yes, there are men in Boston, you just gotta use the key word of "networking" - add free liquor to the mix (preferably cognac) and you're SET!
The Grand Marnier was indeed free and served by the Dixie cup in the lounge downstairs. :)
I didn't really complain 'cuz I was straight after the Hennessey party. ;) But I know some people were irritated 'cuz unfortunately there was only one bartender working downstairs, making the freebies slow to be served and hard to come by.
The man he did his best. They really gotta help dude out, tho'.
I also noticed, that there were a lot of photographers at this event, I noted like 2 professonal ones, not to mention the candids by J. Francois and K. Pritty - Ummmm y'all better EDIT and DELETE some of those photos - as my friend Niki says, "Not all photos are for Facebook".
Promoters K. Pritty, Liz (E1 Live! Entertainment), Stephen A.
I gotta say, with 4 other events in competition, the turnout was good and people really did utilize the time create new connections, pass around business cards and make those deals!
There wasn't a lot of dancing, tho, The DJ was doin' his thing...but, but I don't think most of us were ready to get down like that on a Thursday, at lease I wasn't. I had to call it a night 'round 1 a.m. and I am still feeling it today!
Boston's Promo Kings, J. Francois and K. Pritty
So yes, Boston's Promo Kings have done it again, making Thursday night a good night to come out, be seen, and mingle with no hassles.
The atmosphere is great for networking, so if you are new to the area and looking to make some connects, bring your business cards and your winning personality and head on out :)
They still could use some work at the bar, but it was certainly MUCH better than the last time I came thru.
I may not be able to make it out every week, but I certainly will pass through again. :)
Recap: The Art of Mixing | Free Hennessey | Blue Wave
Man I had a tough time finding a parking space close to the Blue Wave!! (343 Congress St, Harbor side) Most of the parking in the area is resident only, so don't be fooled when you see an empty space! I ended up paying $10 to park in the lot next door, but other people parked near South Station and walked over. I gotta remember that for next time.
I got in a short line and of course, my name was not on the list even though I RSVP'd AND got a confirmation. I get that technology is fallible, but this happens to me EVERY TIME! Fortunatley it wasn't a problem, the women at the door asked who I had heard about the party from and that was good enough to be let in.
Once arrived I saw Hennessey stations...so...okay let me start off by saying...I was wrong. This was NOT a Dixie cup event...they were straight pouring glasses of Hennessey. My man Malcolm, did protest that he was not able to get just Hennessey by itself and had to mix it with something. But nobody else seemed to mind. :)
Photo: Hennessey by the glass and free apps!
They had two drinks available, The Hennessey Side Car and The Hennessey Ginger. The Side Car was borderline nasty. Which, again, I am not a fan of dark liquor (unless it's free!), but the lemon lime-ness of it all was just...well...ick!. I could chill with the Ginger though...had a coke aftertaste, but it was alright. You were able to mix it on your own at a bar station or pick one up as they passed them around.
Although the did not have passed hors d' oeuvres, they did have some great hors d' oeuvres on a table; cheese and fruit, a veggie platter, chicken wings, breaded chicken and I think, chicken skewers (what they tryin' to say?) lol! People got their grub on!
Photo: A dancers hired to get the party hype...yeah I guess they didn't get the memo :)
There was a DJ and he stuck with the old skool, but I guess that went with the Hennessey theme. There was a good showing of people, but the time of free flowing liquor and dancing was stopped promptly at 9:30.
No lie. The lights came on as soon as the big hand hit the 12.
I think the bartender even stopped mid-pour....j/k, but seriously it was ova!
Photo: The mostly male crowd, having a good time socializing
Must say, for my first time at the Blue Wave, this was a nice event. It lived up to what it said it would and people seemed to enjoy themselves.
Good lookin' out R.O.B. :)
*Big ups for BostonFab! Fan Chris! Thanks for reading and saying hey!
