Mini Recap: Saturday Night Lounge | NEWS

Sources say that J. Francois and K. Pritty's Saturday Night Lounge at NEWS (150 Kneeland St., near Chinatown) started off kinda slow, with not that many people. Still, by the end of the night there was a decent crowd.

Apparently the music was really good, which made people stay a longer than they had expected. There wasn't a dance floor and the furniture wasn't even moved around to accommodate one. Overall, NEWS had a chill atmosphere and was a nice time.

*Fab! Girl Tip: Even when I can't make it, I still got my sources! ;)

Stay Fab! :)

Recap: Red Sky

I was too through with the incidents of Saturday/Sunday morning, but still felt compelled to support my man, Sammy aka "Mr. West" on his first venture on his own at a spot in Boston. (And just in case you were wondering ladies, he is back in Beantown on a permanent basis.)

I showed up at around 11 with my roommie who hardly ever goes out and refused to be photographed (such a herb)...but we took a nice seat at the bar thanks to some ladies moving over to make room.

The scene was pretty quiet. I really liked The Red Sky (15 North St, Fanuiel Hall). As it was my first time actually going into the place, I discovered the lounge area towards the front and the pillars that lit up the place, which made the spot very appealing. There was plenty of space to sit down and have a chat and if you were brave enough to dance, there was space for that too.

This place, like some others, doesn't have a DJ permit, so the sounds were a mixed selection that was pretty good.*Side Note: Um...certain DJ's I need you to start selling your mix tapes...you know who you are....hint-hint. ;)

Sammy did deliver on his promises. Prior to my arrival the playboy models handed out energy drinks and gave away t-shirts. And I did get a free corona complete with a lime. You're off to a good start.... :)

Photo: My Fab! roomies and my drinks...free Corona's

The crowd was friendly. I met a soon-to-be Fab! fan Ryan who suggested I put a drop of tabasco sauce in the Corona bottle to give it a little kick. I actually kinda liked it. My roommate also has a San Antonio way of drinking a Corona: Take an extra lime, rub it on the neck of the bottle. Then shake salt around the rim of the bottle. Lick the salt off of the bottle on your way to taking a sip. It's a little un-lady like, but it tastes pretty good. I would have posted the pic of me doing it but...yeah. Not something you want to do in front of a lot of people. They may get ideas. :)

Photo: Corona... the San Antonio way.

Okay so back to the party:

As for my other drink choices I did get the Fab-o-lini ($10), which was nasty. It's strawberry and champagne and didn't appeal to my palate. Still, the drinks were reasonably priced at $8. The bartenders were a bit sloppy, dressed in sweatshirts, hoodies and were just slow and distracted...one of them forgot to take my money twice.

The crowd never got poppin' but hey it was a Sunday night, people had to work... and last nights shooting took place only a few blocks away, which may have deterred people as well. Although it never really got packed, people seemed to flow easily in and out and were conversing and mingling. Towards the end of the night, there was even a bit of dancing. It was also nice to see other promoters such as Klutch and K. Pritty who came out in support.

For Sammy's first event I give it a B+. He did what he was suppos'd to do, as far as delivering what he promised but by making it a guest list only night, it may have hurt his chances at a larger crowd.

Overall I had a good time. Watch out...Sammy is comin' for y'all :)

See you at the next one! Stay Fab! :)

Recap: DJ Kid Capri | Johnnie's on the Side

Since it's my Fab! friend Leah's b-day on Tuesday we decided it would be Birthday Girl's choice and head to the E1 Live! Entertainment event of Johnnie's on the Side (138 Portland St, North End) with DJ Kid Capri. Now, as much as I love being on the party scene there was no way I was going to pay $30 at the door at the club so I was all about getting my tickets early. Little did I know that I would have to contact somebody via phone to get them delivered to me. I find that sooo sketchy.

So, there I am standing in Central Square in front of the Blockbuster waiting on this unidentified person who is looking for "the girl in the red shirt" with a wad of 20's burning in my pocket. Does this scenario sound familiar to you? It shouldn't!! :) Okay, yes, I got my tickets, but dag. I mean, does a girl have to feel like a crack-addict in need of a fix, just to get some daggone tickets??!! Pah-lease people, lets get a bit more fab! about ticket distribution. Thanks...

So it's the night of the party and I'm there with the crew and expected to wait in line, but apparently at 11 they had only just opened the doors. The equipment was still being unloaded so I guess they were running late.

Photo: Fab! CFO Erika, BostonFab! and Fab! Friend Alex

This was my first time at Johnnie's and I didn't realize that the place was so huge! with a well stocked and well staffed bar on the first floor. The bar literally goes the length of the hall. Although it's hard to get out of the ambiance of a sports bar, it really is a good space. There was strategic seating, enough to pause and give your feet a little rest but not too much that you would sit all night. DJ Chubby Chub had already set up his area and was givin' a chill vibe spinnin' Old Skool R&B.

Photo: BostonFab! and Fab! Friend Chanelle

I did a quick walk through of the downstairs - and found it to also be very spacious, but with a more lounge vibe. And you can't hear the music upstairs which is a problem at other venues.

The crowd that drifting in was very... colorful, we had gold lemme outfits and short shorts with heels, to jeans and skirts. I mention the ladies because there weren't that many guys in the place, I thought the dress code was strict, but I saw hats and jeans and the like, so it must not have been that strict.

Photo: The Birthday Crew w/ Birthday girl Leah on the far right

At 12 a.m the crowd was still surprisingly small and I worried that Kid Capri wasn't going to show. Upstairs, Chubbs kept to his slow R&B kick so we headed back downstairs to see if Backspin had kicked it up a notch. Glady he didn't disappoint - you're on your way back to reclaiming the title, man :). and we started to warm up our groove to island rhythms intermixed with hip hop beats. Even E1 Live! Entertainment promoter Liz, got in on the action! Love your new look! And thanks for the shout-outs man, much appreciated!

By 12:30 the downstairs was getting packed. Finally, Backspin announced that Kid was in the building which led to the exodus from the downstairs back upstairs - by that time it was 1 a.m. and the Kid apologized and really wanted to get it in by hitting us HARD with deep Hip Hop Hype Music...which was reminiscent of his set at Rumor, but much faster paced. I was dancing, dippin', leanin' back...basically going crazy, even with my feet hurtin' and you ladies know how it get when your feet hurt. The lights came on at 1:30 but he didn't stop his set until 2:03. But he really didn't want to leave. He was hype! Kindly he went into the crowd for photo ops and I even saw him getting a few phone numbers too...ummmm hmmm. Ain't mad atcha!

Photo: Kid Capri, just warming up

Photo: The Crowd, lovin' Kid's every move.

Photo: Fab! Friend Alex, DJ Kid Capri and BostonFab!

All in all the night started off SLOOOOWWW, thought it had some to do with the promotion it also had to do with the crowd showing up late and of course Kid's waaaay tardy entrance. At the end of the night I gotta give this event a solid B+ because I paid $20 for about an hour of a good time.

*Side Note*: I cannot do this review without mentioning that only moments after your girl and her Fab! friends left Johnnie's on the Side there was a terrible shooting, where about 6 shots were fired leaving a victim in critical condition. And later a stabbing leaving two victims with injuries that may be linked also to the party. As there are many contributing factors that lead to these altercation one cannot blame the management or the promotion company, but we do know that this incident not only effects the lives of the victims, but all of us party-goers who go out to have a good time. What one person does, affects all of us.

The BostonFab! Team's hearts goes out to the victims and their families and hope that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

It won't stop until WE stop it.

Peace, Luv, and Fab!

Recap: The Code Red Affair | Om

I was excited about heading to Om (92 Winthrop St., Harvard Square, Cambridge) for my first Status Promotions event, Code Red Affair as I really wanted to check out this venue. I arrived early, 'cuz you know I don't do lines, around 11, and they were still catering to the dinner crowd as this local hang out spot. The patio and the large window panes were open making it an outdoor/indoor experience all in one.

I got carded by the bouncer who reminded me of the $15 cover charge. There was no list so I don't know why they had previously asked people to RSVP and that the price of entrance would go up as the night went on. Which it didn't...Interesting.

Photo: The downstairs area

After my signature photo with photo man Daniel, I walked past two young ladies and one of them grabbed me...yes put her hands on me...to remind me to pay the cover charge. 1st off...They were in a dark corner so it was hard to see them. 2nd off the fact that you have to grab people to remind them of the cover charge with an attitude shows the lack of organization to ensure the promo group gets their money. 3rd...Don't be puttin' your hands on people. I'm nice...but...others might not have been so nice.

Trying to get over my "assault" ;) I surveyed the crowd and it was really mixed, I think most if not all of the nationalities were represented. The dance floor was very cool a nice rectangle surrounded by long couches. The entire restaurant/lounge is Asian influenced decorated with bamboo, water falls with back-lighting, Red lights at the bar, dark walls, and a large Asian influenced paintings on the far wall. Very Fung Shui. Very sexy.

Photo: International crowd kinda having a good time

At the bar I got my signature, but it tasted watered down and was and set me back $12. I proceeded to the upstairs and found the colors to be the opposite of downstairs, probably keeping with the yin and yang style as the room is white. There is a long black couch which was great for when you just wanted to chill out. But the bar was placed in an awkward corner right above the stairs. The room is also L-shaped, so if you stopped short of the dance area you would think it was a lot smaller than it is and wouldn't see the rest of the area which has are large picture windows that line the street facing the outside. Tre sheik.

The crowd that had come for the party seemed to all know each other and averaged age was probably 22. My pre-conceived notion of Status Promotions was that it would draw a younger crowd that got down and had a good time. This was not the case. I felt like I was at a prep-school dance or a networking mixer - not a Friday night out. Upstairs they all sipped on their drinks, chit chatted and gossiped about who was dating who (I sorta eaves dropped) and squealed when they saw somebody they knew. Nobody was really dancing. But they did dress tastefully so I guess there is still some hope for the next generation :)

Photo: The upstairs crowd chillin and lookin' good

Downstairs wasn't much better. Don't get me wrong , some people were gettin' it in but for the most part, people were content chatting and two-stepping and only got "hype" when DJ Fanatic played a remix of Neo...oookay. I, think perhaps having the mixed crowd of regulars with party-goers added to the confusion of how to act.

Overall DJ's Fanatic and G-Wiz were ookay...but did nothing spectacular or memorable. There was some issue getting the sound to transmit upstairs, which made have contributed to the lack of dancing.

I almost called this party a wrap at 1 a.m. 'til I saw one of the Fab! Fans Chris, who let me crash his crew and chit chatted with me ...thanks man...you made my night! Also a big THANK YOU!! for the "other thing";) which, I won't post the exact details of to preserve your rep ;), but will just say - ladies, this guy is a TRUE gentleman.

Photo: Fab! Fan "Gentleman" Chris and BostonFab!

Also, my man Edgar of So Good Entertainment stopped by. This cat has been off the scene for a minute, but promises a new wave of nightlife is coming so be on the look out.

The ambiance of this place should definitely be utilized by other promoters...hint-hint ;) as it is ultra sexy and has a lot of potential. As for this particular party 'eh....if you had never been to a party before, you might of had a good time. But as for me...it was just ok. I give it a C+/B-.

Stay Fab! :)

The Boston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta are hosting

The Boston Boat Ride
aboard the
Spirit of Boston
(200 Seaport Blvd, Harbor side)

I am a little wary of boat rides since my last experience, but a different group of hosts could make for a more pleasurable experience

Level 2 and 3
Dance floors with DJ Chubby Chub on the 1's and 2's

Level 4
Moonlit deck

Boarding starts at 11 and the boat leaves at 11:30. And ends at 2:30 a.m.

The Dress code is classy and upscale

Tickets are on sale NOW!!

$40 General Admission

$60 VIP
VIP status gives you access to the upper area of the boat and you get 4 drink tickets!!
(Drinks are typically $9.75 a pop)

Early bird tickets are limited!

For more information and to purchase advanced tickets click here!!

*Fab! Girl Tip: Now they say that there are 4 Levels of entertainment, but I am going to keep it real with you. Actually there are 3 levels because one is for VIP only, and if it's raining or cold (It is in September) then that leaves 2 because the moon deck is outside. And since they are using the same DJ for both upstairs and downstairs. That brings the room count to one.

Don't be fooled! Stay Fab! :)

7.23 Harold and Martin | Networking | The Waterclub

I have been to this place before, and the atmosphere is great for socializing, tho' I gotta say the neighbors looked at me a lil' funny.

Free parking and plenty of it. There is no cover. Drinks specials with Pravda Vodka.

Bring your business cards!

Rain or shine!

Recap: Grand Opening - Socialite Thursdays | District Lounge

You can't really call it a comeback 'cuz they never left. I rolled by Socialite Thursdays hosted by J. Francois and K. Pritty at District Lounge (180 Lincoln St, Financial District) around 7:30, just to see how the crowd was and I saw there were already a few people waiting in line. I took it as a good sign.

I did manage to find free street parking, but appreciated the parking suggestion of the promoters. I was also happy that this event wasn't as heavily promoted as the last one (Prestige = OVERKILL), but with just enough e-mails to keep it on your radar.

Alright so...once inside, you know how I do, gotta get the signature drink. The bartender at the first bar was a sweetheart, but seemed kinda new, a little flustered. But hey - we all were new once. She did make a good n' strong drink so she's a-okay in my book!

I came in on the tail end of the 6 - 9 crowd so people were still in their clusters, chatting and schmoozing, exchanging business cards and munching on apps. It was so nice to see y'all lookin' good and showing out.

As time passed I started to notice that the crowd was different somehow...I couldn't quite put my finger on it at first...but then...oh yeah that would be the ratio - this time in the females favor. Like 5 dudes to 1 chick. Lovin' it!!...well kinda. Sometimes, I didn't know what to do with myself - you know like -when you get that feeling that eyes are burning into the back of your head. And being approached so many times did get a little repetitive. But I gotta give the guys credit for actually trying and not just standing on the sidelines. Kudos!

By 11:30 the place was packed and they were holding the line. Sorry if you never made it in :(

I was also very pleased that they kept their promise of a raffle for a night on the town sponsored by The Dark Night. Though, I didn't win by like one number and was a little heated -I was glad that the advertising was on point this time. Good look!

The music...eh...you already know. The IPod selection wasn't quite as good as the last time, and the low volume made it hard to hear...but I think the idea is since it's free you're suppos'd to stock up on drinks and not really notice the music. And for the rest of the crowd it really worked. By around 12 people were dancing, grinding - in a very socialite kind of way :). I think the 6 - 9 atmosphere really allowed people to get to know one another and put a face with the booty - lol!

Photo: The crowd...I see you Mr. West!

I dunno how people stayed there for like 8 hours though! And some people really did...wow.

So I gotta give this "Premiere" event a solid A. They delivered.

*Fab! Girl Tip: This is a weekly event, that is Fab! approved so definitely stop by - especially the ladies :). And just 'cuz it's free don't skimp on drinking, ordering some apps, something. There's a difference in being "thrifty" and just plain cheap!

Luv you!

Stay Fab! :)

Super Mini Recap: The Sexy 69 Party | 33 Lounge

So you know me, I try to support and get into as many parties as possible so I can keep you in the know. So before stopping by District Lounge for Socialite Thursdays, I headed to
33 Ultra Lounge (33 Stanhope St, Backbay) for the Plush Thursdays Sexy 69 party

I thought - cuz that's what the announcement said - it was a 2 part party. Drinks, apps, free sampling from 6 - 9 p.m. then dancing 'til 2 a.m. - So, I showed up around 7:30 looking all cute and ready to party and the very nice hostess informed me that the party started at 10:30. Um...yeah thanks for the heads up guys.

So my Fab! Girl Tip: Don't show up early! Also...one of my sources say that nobody was there even after 10:30...maybe next week guys?

Unfab! :(
