This was my first time at Johnnie's and I didn't realize that the place was so huge! with a well stocked and well staffed bar on the first floor. The bar literally goes the length of the hall. Although it's hard to get out of the ambiance of a sports bar, it really is a good space. There was strategic seating, enough to pause and give your feet a little rest but not too much that you would sit all night. DJ Chubby Chub had already set up his area and was givin' a chill vibe spinnin' Old Skool R&B.

I did a quick walk through of the downstairs - and found it to also be very spacious, but with a more lounge vibe. And you can't hear the music upstairs which is a problem at other venues.
The crowd that drifting in was very... colorful, we had gold lemme outfits and short shorts with heels, to jeans and skirts. I mention the ladies because there weren't that many guys in the place, I thought the dress code was strict, but I saw hats and jeans and the like, so it must not have been that strict.

At 12 a.m the crowd was still surprisingly small and I worried that Kid Capri wasn't going to show. Upstairs, Chubbs kept to his slow R&B kick so we headed back downstairs to see if Backspin had kicked it up a notch. Glady he didn't disappoint - you're on your way back to reclaiming the title, man :). and we started to warm up our groove to island rhythms intermixed with hip hop beats. Even E1 Live! Entertainment promoter Liz, got in on the action! Love your new look! And thanks for the shout-outs man, much appreciated!
By 12:30 the downstairs was getting packed. Finally, Backspin announced that Kid was in the building which led to the exodus from the downstairs back upstairs - by that time it was 1 a.m. and the Kid apologized and really wanted to get it in by hitting us HARD with deep Hip Hop Hype Music...which was reminiscent of his set at Rumor, but much faster paced. I was dancing, dippin', leanin' back...basically going crazy, even with my feet hurtin' and you ladies know how it get when your feet hurt. The lights came on at 1:30 but he didn't stop his set until 2:03. But he really didn't want to leave. He was hype! Kindly he went into the crowd for photo ops and I even saw him getting a few phone numbers too...ummmm hmmm. Ain't mad atcha!

All in all the night started off SLOOOOWWW, thought it had some to do with the promotion it also had to do with the crowd showing up late and of course Kid's waaaay tardy entrance. At the end of the night I gotta give this event a solid B+ because I paid $20 for about an hour of a good time.
*Side Note*: I cannot do this review without mentioning that only moments after your girl and her Fab! friends left Johnnie's on the Side there was a terrible shooting, where about 6 shots were fired leaving a victim in critical condition. And later a stabbing leaving two victims with injuries that may be linked also to the party. As there are many contributing factors that lead to these altercation one cannot blame the management or the promotion company, but we do know that this incident not only effects the lives of the victims, but all of us party-goers who go out to have a good time. What one person does, affects all of us.
The BostonFab! Team's hearts goes out to the victims and their families and hope that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
It won't stop until WE stop it.

At the bar I got my signature, but it tasted watered down and was and set me back $12. I proceeded to the upstairs and found the colors to be the opposite of downstairs, probably keeping with the yin and yang style as the room is white. There is a long black couch which was great for when you just wanted to chill out. But the bar was placed in an awkward corner right above the stairs. The room is also L-shaped, so if you stopped short of the dance area you would think it was a lot smaller than it is and wouldn't see the rest of the area which has are large picture windows that line the street facing the outside. Tre sheik.
The crowd that had come for the party seemed to all know each other and averaged age was probably 22. My pre-conceived notion of Status Promotions was that it would draw a younger crowd that got down and had a good time. This was not the case. I felt like I was at a prep-school dance or a networking mixer - not a Friday night out. Upstairs they all sipped on their drinks, chit chatted and gossiped about who was dating who (I sorta eaves dropped) and squealed when they saw somebody they knew. Nobody was really dancing. But they did dress tastefully so I guess there is still some hope for the next generation :)

Downstairs wasn't much better. Don't get me wrong , some people were gettin' it in but for the most part, people were content chatting and two-stepping and only got "hype" when DJ Fanatic played a remix of Neo...oookay. I, think perhaps having the mixed crowd of regulars with party-goers added to the confusion of how to act.
Overall DJ's Fanatic and G-Wiz were ookay...but did nothing spectacular or memorable. There was some issue getting the sound to transmit upstairs, which made have contributed to the lack of dancing.
I almost called this party a wrap at 1 a.m. 'til I saw one of the Fab! Fans Chris, who let me crash his crew and chit chatted with me ...thanks man...you made my night! Also a big THANK YOU!! for the "other thing";) which, I won't post the exact details of to preserve your rep ;), but will just say - ladies, this guy is a TRUE gentleman.

Also, my man Edgar of So Good Entertainment stopped by. This cat has been off the scene for a minute, but promises a new wave of nightlife is coming so be on the look out.
The ambiance of this place should definitely be utilized by other promoters...hint-hint ;) as it is ultra sexy and has a lot of potential. As for this particular party 'eh....if you had never been to a party before, you might of had a good time. But as for me...it was just ok. I give it a C+/B-.
Stay Fab! :)

I came in on the tail end of the 6 - 9 crowd so people were still in their clusters, chatting and schmoozing, exchanging business cards and munching on apps. It was so nice to see y'all lookin' good and showing out.
As time passed I started to notice that the crowd was different somehow...I couldn't quite put my finger on it at first...but then...oh yeah that would be the ratio - this time in the females favor. Like 5 dudes to 1 chick. Lovin' it!!...well kinda. Sometimes, I didn't know what to do with myself - you know like -when you get that feeling that eyes are burning into the back of your head. And being approached so many times did get a little repetitive. But I gotta give the guys credit for actually trying and not just standing on the sidelines. Kudos!
By 11:30 the place was packed and they were holding the line. Sorry if you never made it in :(

*Fab! Girl Tip: This is a weekly event, that is Fab! approved so definitely stop by - especially the ladies :). And just 'cuz it's free don't skimp on drinking, ordering some apps, something. There's a difference in being "thrifty" and just plain cheap!
Luv you!
Stay Fab! :)
I thought - cuz that's what the announcement said - it was a 2 part party. Drinks, apps, free sampling from 6 - 9 p.m. then dancing 'til 2 a.m. - So, I showed up around 7:30 looking all cute and ready to party and the very nice hostess informed me that the party started at 10:30. Um...yeah thanks for the heads up guys.
So my Fab! Girl Tip: Don't show up early! Also...one of my sources say that nobody was there even after 10:30...maybe next week guys?
Unfab! :(
