Recap: Plush Thursdays

Last Thursday me and Fab! CFO Erika decided to give Plush Thursdays at 33 Lounge (33 Stanhope St, Backbay) another go. This time we arrived around 10:30 to get some of the free liquor (Bombay Sapphire) that we thought was readily available. The flyer said it would be served out on the patio, from 10:30 - 11:30, but because the weather was worsening we thought they would move it inside, but after 12 a.m. gave up searching.

Later we saw people with some vouchers that they had rec'd from the hostess, which I suppose when you presented them to the bartender you got a free drink. ) Talk about CONFUSING!!! *Side Note: I had asked 3 different wait staff and the hostesses about the promo and they all acted like they didn't know what I was talking about....suspect).

As most of you know the weather got bad fast and was pouring by 11:30 which unfortunately made this international crowd dismal.

As for the waitstaff...our waitress was WAAAAYYY too attentive. Like up in our faces every five minutes (literally) maybe 'cuz she didn't have anything to do...I dunno. First she made our group move from small tables to a larger table to keep the flow of traffic clear (uh-what traffic?) then...when we moved she was irritated that we took the chairs to fill the empty table (did she expect us to stand??) and then was hounding us every 5 minutes for a drink...lady!! Give it a rest.

The DJ...in a word...awful. And it's not just from my standpoint, most of the people in our party had something to say about the DJ Sender. It wasn't just that his music selection included Will Smith and Backstreet Boys that bothered as much as the mixes...somehow 50 cent was morphed with a high energy techno bass beat...and then when you kinda got into a groove...or should I say after you worked so hard to get into a groove, he would just up and change the song to another monstrosity of a mix. Maybe he was trying something new out on the crowd...I dunno, but it was not workin' for me.

Also the turntables are inside the bar area which totally killed my ears. I'm not sure why they chose to do that, plus I dunno about electrical equipment near combustibles...hmmmm.

Okay so enough with the negative aspects...the positives. The area is a nice spot. I really like fact that they have a real area for dancing and a great long bar. The ambiance of this place is really great. I am still not a fan of the naked chick photos leading to the lower lounge, but had they had a larger crowd the second bar would have brought relief to the upstairs.

Another real highlight was meeting the Original Promo King and now Fab! Fan Eddie Cue. If you get a chance to chat with the guy take advantage of it as he has great insight on Boston promo life. He is a super nice, very friendly, very humble man.

Although it was a free party on a Thursday night, there are definitely some glitches in this weekly party that need to be attended to. I know that the rain was definitely a factor in the amount of people that showed up and most likely affected the crowd and music selection as well. Having that said I still gotta give the party a C-.

*Side Note: Eddie Cue has an event in the works that celebrates Independent Women...(what-what! :)) which may include special "socialite" and political guests...Check back for details.

Stay Fab! :)
